What Do You Need to Know
Reporting Child Abuse
TTCC is a mandadory reporting agency. It is not only our moral obligation, but our legal
obligation to report suspected abuse or neglect of a child. If a TTCC employee suspects a child under our care is a victim of abuse or neglect, they will notify the director immediately. The director will notify Social Services or will have the teacher notify Social Services
Your Child Will Need
1 blanket and 1 sheet for their cot. Blankets and sheets need to be brought on Monday morning and placed in your child's cubby. They will be returned to your child's cubby each Friday for you to take home and launder. Note: If your child has a special blanket that needs to be taken home daily, please notify the teacher so it can be placed in his/her cubby each day.
A complete change of clothes, including socks, underwear, pants and a shirt. Be sure to change clothing according to the season or as your child grows. IF you are in the process of potty training, multiple sets of clothing will be needed including extra shoes. Soiled laundry will be placed in the Soiled Laundry Container on the front porch, as mandated by the Virginia Department of Social Services. All soiled clothing will be discarded on Monday morning, if not claimed from the previous week.
MAKE SURE TO PUT YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON EVERYTHING YOU BRING IN TTCC. THIS INCLUDES BLANKETS, SHEETS, CLOTHES, CLOTHES, BACKPACKS
Discipline
Discipline and guidance are consistent and based on an understanding of the individual and developmental needs of the child, and is directed toward teaching acceptable behavior. Children will not be disciplined by cruel humifaction, abusive language, or punishment in association with food, napping, or toilet training. The acceptable method of discipline is redirection and cooling down time at a safe place for the child to reflect on his/her actions and get him/herself under control. Continued misbehavior may result with a talk with the director or a quiet time in the office. We will consult with the parent if the problem is persistent or some other form of action needs to be taken. A signed copy of our discipline policy is required upon enrollment of your child.
In order to maintain a consistent approach to discipline at TTCC, we have set the following standards for dealing with situations that require discipline:
- Screaming, yelling, shouting, or threatening is not acceptable. A shout may be used if it can stop a child from hurting another child or themselves. ex. Biting. Afterwards staff will use friendly, but firm voice when disciplining.
- Redirection will be used or natural consequences
(throwing block - leave block area.) - Cool off area in the room or in another classroom, when behavior escalates or calm down is needed.
- discipline will be administered at the time of the undesired behavior, not after a period of time has passed.
- Or staff will strive to make sure the children understand the rules.
- TTCC will not punish children for their misbehavior at home or take away activities based on their misbehavior at home.
